Building Resilient Communities Through Higher Education: My Published Research in Diversitas Journal

Introduction
I am proud to announce the publication of my research article, “A Community Development Program Framework for Higher Education Institutions in Society 5.0”, in Diversitas Journal (Vol. 10, Special Issue 3, 2025). This work reflects my ongoing mission to align higher education institutions (HEIs) with the transformative vision of Society 5.0, where technology and human-centered values converge to address pressing social challenges.
Research Focus
The study proposes a Community Development Program (CDP) framework for HEIs that integrates Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and human-centered design to empower communities. It responds to challenges intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic—such as poverty, health, hunger, climate change, and education gaps—by positioning HEIs as catalysts for sustainable and resilient development.

Key themes explored include:

Society 5.0 Integration: Leveraging advanced technologies for human-centered innovation.
Community DNA Framework: A structured model for institutionalizing HEI-community partnerships.
ICT Tools for Engagement: Using web engineering processes, surveys, and focus group discussions to strengthen collaboration.
Sustainability and Resilience: Building communities that are not only self-sufficient but adaptable to future challenges.
Methodology and Insights
The research employed qualitative approaches including:
- Human-Centered Design (HCD)
- Modified Significant Stories of Change (MSSC)
- Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
- ICT-based data collection frameworks
Findings revealed that volunteers from HEIs felt empowered yet recognized the need for more resources and ICT tools to maximize impact. This led to the development of the Community DNA 5.0 Framework, a guide for institutionalizing HEI engagement in community development.
Significance
This publication underscores the critical role of HEIs in shaping Society 5.0. By embedding ICT-driven frameworks into community programs, universities can:
- Strengthen their relevance in local and global contexts.
- Empower marginalized communities through sustainable innovation.
- Align academic initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Closing Reflection
This research is part of my broader vision as an academic leader, mentor, and consultant: to champion inclusive, sustainable, and technology-driven development. By institutionalizing HEI-community partnerships, we can ensure that innovation serves humanity and builds resilient societies for the future.
